Instant Prospector Overview
Ontolo's Instant Prospecting Tool allows you to quickly create link prospect lists for specific link opportunities such as directories, guest posts, or sponsored links.
First, enter the topics of links you want to find (Prospecting Phrases) and the types of links you want to find (Footprint Templates). We will then go find link prospects that match those details.
Next, we organize the link prospects by a simple scoring system based on how often the prospect shows up in results and what its actual search rank is. We calculate this score for domains, subdomains, and URLs.
Finally, export a CSV with each of the scores (we defult to sorting by domain scores) making your list easy to quickly review in a prioritized manner.
Setting Up an Instant Prospector Report
Entering a Report Name
The report name is used for labeling and finding the report after you run it.
Choosing Prospecting Phrases
Prospecting Phrases are basically the topics of link prospects or content research you want to perform.
Choosing a Footprint Template
Footprint Templates define the type of link prospect or content research you want to perform.
Choosing the Top Results to Collect
Ontolo uses search engines to find link prospects and to research content. Use a lot of results (e.g. 100) if you want more prospects/data. If you want a shorter, but higher-quality list of prospects and research, use a lower number of results.
Campaign (In this example: Bed and Breakfast: Advanced settings integrate with campaign-specific data. This select box allows you to choose which campaign's data you wish to integrate.
Exclude Competitors: Check this box to exclude competitors defined in the Campaign Manager.
Exclude Project Excluded Domains: Check this box to exclude Project-Excluded Domains, as defined in the Campaign Manager.
Exclude Campaign Excluded Domains: Check this box to exclude Campaign-Excluded Domains, as defined in the Campaign Manager.
Include All Prospect Statuses: Check this box to include all Qualification and Acquisition Statuses that have been added to prospects through the Nightly Prospecting DB.
Include All Prospect Tags: Check this box to include all Tags that have been added to prospects through the Nightly Prospecting DB
Include All Prospect Notes: Check this box to include all Notes that have been added to prospects through the Nightly Prospecting DB
Exporting & Analyzing Instant Prospector Reports
To view the data from your Instant Prospector report, simply export the report by clicking the report's "Complete" link in the status column.
Prospect Scores are used to prioritize and value link prospects. They are calculated using a combination of rank position and frequency. We calculate this score for all URLs, Subdomains, and Domains.
When we crawl link prospects, we collect the following contact information:
If you define competitor domains in the Campaign Manager, then select a Campaign in the Advanced dropdown, we will link this up and show you both how many competitors are linked to from each link prospect, as well as which competitors are linked to.

Configuring the Instant Prospector
Configuring the Instant Prospector tab in the Campaign Manager is unnecessary to create reports. This tab in the Campaign Manager simply allows you to create additional Footprint Templates, if you so choose.
Selecting a Template
Create a new template from scratch, or choose a template you or the Ontolo community has made to then customize as your own.
Creating a Template Name
A name for the new template.
Prospecting footprints to use. Use [KW] for where Prospecting Phrases will be combined.
Sharing Footprint Templates with the Community
Check this box to share the template and footprints with the community.
Delete this template from your account. If you have shared it with the community and others have copied it, other people will still have their own copy in their account.
